Course Summaries

NURS 309 is a continuation of NURS 209 - Adult Nursing I.

Students are introduced to nursing care of adults and elderly experiencing a variety of health disturbances related to musculoskeletal, sensorineural, integumentary, immunological and reproductive systems. Emphasis is on the nursing process and tertiary prevention.

This course is a continuation of NUPR 209 – Adult Nursing Practicum I. Students utilize nursing process to provide holistic care to adults, inclusive of the elderly. Emphasis is on tertiary care and prevention of health care disturbances affecting body systems.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Students will:

1. Identify concepts and challenges in nursing practice for adults and the elderly;

2. Describe various health disturbances experienced by adults and the elderly;

3. Discuss collaborative care for adults and the elderly experiencing various health disturbances;

4. Apply ethical, legal and multicultural principles in the provision of nursing care of adults and the elderly with various health disturbances;

5. Discuss the nursing management of adults and the elderly experiencing various health disturbances using the nursing process; and

6. Develop teaching plans for adults and the elderly experiencing various health disturbances
