Emancipation But Not Freedom

In a series of four articles entitled “Emancipation But Not Freedom,” University of The Bahamas faculty Dr. Tracey Thompson and Dr. Olivia Saunders explore challenges faced by ordinary Bahamians since the passage of the Emancipation Act of 1833 and ways in which they responded to those challenges.  The first three articles map the shifting scope of freedom between 1833 through 1950 while the fourth article outlines developments from mid-century through 1959.
