Special Collections is a closed access area which houses all materials with a Bahamian orientation whether about the Bahamas or written by a Bahamian author.

Finding A Book

To find a book at one of your branch libraries, you should first search our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), COBWEB.

 

Overview

Special Collections house collections of books within the collection. These can be accessed through the Online Public Access Catalog.

Government Documents

The government documents are publications of the Government of the Bahamas. Included in this collection are the Ministry of Education Curriculum Guidelines and statistical information. In some cases these documents have been discontinued in print and  updated issues can be found online on the relevant website. 

Which area in Special Collections is the book located?

Take note of the prefix in front of the call number when searching OPAC. This will provide staff with the exact location for fast and easy retrieval from the stacks. 

Michael Craton Collection

Michael Craton, author and historian, donated books and journals from his personal library. This collection holds a wealth of  historical information pertaining to the English-speaking Caribbean. 

SC General Collection

This collection includes a variety of books from any subject area that are Bahamian related whether by content or written by a local author. 

Dissertations/Thesis

The dissertations are research papers written by students to support the fulfillment of the requirements for a graduate/undergraduate degree. Along with publications that are Bahamian oriented, this collection includes dissertations that are Caribbean based.
