Hilda Bowen Library: About Us

The Hilda Bowen Library is the specialized health sciences library of the University of The Bahamas. It is located at the Grosvenor Close Campus in down town Nassau. It serves students in the School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions.

Out Island Nurse

Out Island Nurse by William McRae Gillies (1896-1976).  In 1965, Gillies painted Zel Lockhart into posterity as the archetypical Out Island Nurse. The viewer can sense from the nurse’s distant gaze and serious expression that she is aware of the magnitude of her work.
